Bears

I'll make it simple. If the bear wants food, don't do anything stupid or crazy to stop it. Throw rocks near it (near not at), try to discourage it from taking your food. To keep a bear out of your food, hang it up in a tree. Ask a ranger for directions on how best to do that.

(why ask a ranger? Well, it's not like it's that hard to explain, I'm just too lazy to write it down in an understandable way)

Cats

(a.k.a - MOUNTAIN LIONS)

If you see one, your job is simple, GET BIG. Open up your jacket, put something over your head to make you look bigger. If you have small children, put them on you shoulders. Next job, YELL. Not for help, just make noise that will dicourage the mountain lion. If those fail, get sticks or rocks (somehow without crouching down) and throw them at or near the cat.

DO NOT TURN AROUND OR RUN. This is what the cat wants, it's its signal to go over and slaughter you like a small goat.

Snow

Tip for life #1 - Stay Warm. Run, wear extra layers, anything to keep warm.

Tip for life #2 - DRINK WATER!!!!. (liquid water. NO SNOW) Sounds strange but, it is really easy to get dehydrated in cold weather. Why? BECAUSE IT'S COLD!!!! and your body needs water to keep it's temperature up.

Tip for life #3 - Don't sweat. The sweat will get cold and/or freeze. If you start to sweat, slow down.

Tip for life #4 - Stay dry. Wet clothes lose heat. Cotton loses all of it's insulating ability when wet. (not that you'd be wearing cotton)

Heat

Tip for life #1 - Don't push yourself too hard! This can be tested during your rest breaks by timing how long it takes your breathing to return to normal. A healthy person's breathing returns to normal in about 3 minutes.

Tip for life #2 - DRINK WATER!!!! for some reason, that needs repeating, DRINK WATER!!!!. If you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

Tip for life #3 - Go swimming during lunch breaks if at all possible. This is not only fun, it also cools you down in a big hurry. also/instead wash you shirt, hat (pants if you chose). Not only wash them. Wash them, set them out to dry, then dunk them again just before you put them on (before you leave) This will keep you really cool.
