Troop 777 Domelands Hiking and Camping Trek - November 2-3, 2019
Post date: Oct 19, 2019 4:31:48 AM
Hi Troop 777 Scouts and Parents,
We would like to invite you to the Domelands hike and camping trek to enjoy one of the richest, most impressive geological experiences available in the Anza-Borrego Desert region. The Domelands Trail is a 7.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Ocotillo, California and is rated as moderate. There are cool caves and slot-canyons to hike and explore. It should be a fun hiking trek. https://www.ihikesandiego.com/anza-borrego-domelands-windcaves-slot-canyon/
We plan a 2 day intermediate skill level hiking trek with one night of primitive camping. We will leave Encinitas at 8:00 AM Sat. Nov. 2 and return sometime in the early afternoon Sun. Nov. 3 after stopping at In-N-Out for burgers on the way home. Cook-masters are encouraged to volunteer.
It will require packing a bag for one night and carrying all of your gear and water about 3.75 miles each way. It's considered a moderate hilly grade and should be doable for intermediate-level hikers carrying 15-30 lbs of gear. It will be a good practice trek for Philmont hikers.
We will plan a hiking pack check to plan the proper gear at the Nov. 4 T777 Troop meeting. I attached the example scout gear list which provides an overload amount of information if you're interested to learn more. Plan to arrive at 6:30 pm to practice and see the appropriate gear to bring.
Additional details about the activities, and what to bring are in the attached trek form.
· Nov. 2-3 (Sat Morning – Sun Afternoon)
· Will depart Dick’s Sporting Goods at 8 am Saturday 11/2 and return by early afternoon (approx. 1-2 pm) Sunday 11/3.
· Cookmasters, meal planning, and coordination of transportation will be forthcoming once we get the participants determined.
Instructions: Please sign up no later than Oct. 25th and return the signed trek form, payment and medical records to Roger Adami or James Baxter.
We hope you can make it and if you have any questions, please let us know.
