TRAINING

 

Adult Training Opportunities

Training for Adults is offered through the Council. Many courses may be completed on-line while other are offered at various times of the year. Adult leaders who complete their requisite training may wear the "Trained" patch on their uniform.

Assistant Scoutmaster are required to take four training programs: Youth Protection Training, New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific Training, and Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills. Committee members are recommended to take Youth Protection Training, New Leader Essentials, and Committee Specific Training.  All adults who directly interact with our scouts, as mentors, merit badge counselors, trek drivers, or service project leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training.

On-Line Training

The following training is offered as convenient on-line courses at the BSA scouting.org website. You will need to create an account that allows you to return to track and refresh your training. It is not necessary to have a BSA member ID to register.

Specialist Training

Specialist Training, beyond the basics above, is offered through the Council's High Adventure Team and begins with High Adventure Leader Trek Training (HALTT) which focuses on backpacking. There is an equivalent Water Trek course for water activities (e.g. Canoe treks) and courses for other specialties such as: Snow Camping, Desert Backpacking, Rock Climbing, and Equipment Making.
