| Reason for rating: This trip, although there is a long, steep uphill in the beginning, was a very fun trip. Once you get to saddle junction, you pass through a huge meadow of ferns and camp at a nice campsite with ferns all around. |
| Description of trip: You start out with a mild uphill which gets steeper and will eventually turn to switch backs going up an amazingly steep slope. As you hike, you get many great views. And, because you're in the forest, there are hundreds of places to stop along Devil's slide (the large hill that you go up). Once you get to the top, there is a junction called saddle junction. Use a map before you go on your trip in order to decide which of the four or five trails you wish to take to get to your destination. On your way down the hill, you can easily go what many of my friends call 'crazy pace' which is basically using gravity pull you down and you just use your feet to keep you upright, not for braking. |
